For both of us, it is generally about the work we need to do today. Both of us have this very bad habit of checking emails and work notifications right after getting up. We do this because we want to plan our day accordingly but it sets the tone for a day filled with busyness and complexity.
A single thought of our job snowballs into multiple thoughts about the things we need to do throughout the day related to work, this blog, and personal life commitments. Suddenly, our minds are flooded with tasks and commitments and everything feels so overwhelming before we even step out of bed.
It’s like we’re being pulled into different directions. Like there are so many things that need our attention. And this is when we don’t even have a baby yet. God help us then.
We live in India so we’re fortunate to have household help for cleaning, dishes, cooking, and other chores. Our geography is such that we need deep cleaning of our homes every day because of the dust that comes in with the air. We don’t have a dishwasher so the dishes have to be done by hand.
But when our house help is on leave and we have to do all our work ourselves, it’s like a war zone in here. So much stuff to clean, organize, and maintain on top of our 9-5 jobs that sometimes extend beyond the usual work hours.
The struggle is real.
Although we shouldn’t call it a struggle. We’re aware of the privilege we have compared to so many people across the globe who struggle to earn a living every day. But we’re human beings and we adapt to the environment we live in, and anything outside our comfort zone feels like a challenge.
